The CDC has now nationally strongly recommended that all citizens wear face masks when going outside of your home.
The CDC officially recommended homemade face masks in public. As researchers have learned more about the virus and it's spread recommendations have also changed.
Several cities and communities are now required to wear facemasks. Since all medical masks such as N95's and surgical masks are being reserved for those who are working the front lines, we are being asked to wear homemade masks.

Ph.D. Biochemist at the University of Oxford and Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention states plainly: "The big mistake in the U.S. and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren't wearing masks" This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role-you've got to wear a mask because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth. Many people have asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections. if they are wearing face masks, it can prevent droplets that carry the virus from escaping and infecting others.

Just remember: A mask — homemade or otherwise — in no way reduces the need for staying at home as much as possible if you are able, and for social and physical distancing
